Vision, Mission, Goal

Vision
Suriname provides no day, night and weekend care for handicapped adolescents and chronically ill children. There is a need of this care and in the coming years this need will only become more urgent. With increasing age, handicapped children in homes no longer meet the requirements for admission in a home and are referred back to their parents. As a result these parents are no longer able to work and end up in a financial crisis. Demographic data are not exactly available, as there is no rule obliging parents to register a handicapped child.

Authorities are aware of this problem but have no short term solution owing to lack of funds. So parents cannot look to them for assistance.

Angel’s Garden wants to set an example by showing that people should not expect too much from the government, but should make a collective effort to improve the situation for handicapped people themselves.

In Suriname, having a handicapped child is still a taboo. Handicapped children are still hidden out of sight. In the streets you will not often see a mother with a handicapped child in a wheelchair, or a group of handicapped youngsters at McDonald’s. They are still kept behind locked doors. By bringing these young people together Angel’s Garden hopes to take the first step towards change.

Mission
Angel’s Garden provides affordable day, night, and weekend care for mentally or physically handicapped adolescents and chronically ill children.

The staff of Angel’s Garden are well-disposed towards every client, and all of them competent and qualified employees with a heart for their work.

Goals
The overall aim of the foundation Angel’s Care is to provide care for handicapped adolescents and chronically ill children in a homely and harmonious atmosphere.

The first goal is to provide day, night, and weekend care for mentally or physically handicapped adolescents and chronically ill children in Suriname.

A second goal is to carry out all activities broadly connected with, or beneficial to, the primary goal.
One of the ways in which the foundation tries to realize its goals is to organize a day, night and weekend provision for the relevant groups, with the accompanying facilities.
